Will Dockery was born October 22, 1930 in Ding Dong, Texas, on the Lampasas River. As a young boy he broke and trained horses for his dad, Sam Dockery. At a young age he left home and moved to Colorado to work on a cattle ranch. He also worked on a cattle ranch in West Texas.
He moved to Killeen, Texas in 1950 and was drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany with the Occupational Forces. After serving time in the Army, he moved back to Killeen.
In 1953 he got his RCA Card as a Saddle Bronc Rider. He met and married Nita Priest from Killeen. He rodeoed and calf roped for several years, but his heart was always in breaking and training young colts.
When it came to young horses he had loads of patience. He was known for his skills of training horses and being able to catch and pen some of the wildest cows to the meanest bulls for ranchers. He was always up for an adventure, whether it was breaking a rank colt or catching the meanest, wildest cows. He loved being a cowboy.
Will died in 2001. He lived most of his life in Bell County. He is survived by three daughters, Dusty Sadler, Scottie Simpson, Toby Carmon, and seven grandchildren.
