Scottie (Dockery) Simpson was born in Belton Texas on March 30, 1958 to Will and Nita (Priest) Dockery. She grew up in the Killeen-Lampsas river area. She started riding horses at the age of two and has never stopped. She helped her Dad ride horses growing up and occasionally he let her run barrels on his roping horses.
She participated in high school rodeo in 1974. Then in 1979 she married J.G. Crouch from Killeen Texas and went on the Pro-Rodeo Circuit. She timed events and carried flags for rodeo producers such as Steiners, Neil and Donny Gay and Bad Company Rodeo. She also carried a flag at the 1982 National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She timed the Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo four years in a row. She received her Women’s Professional Rodeo Association Permit in 1985 and began running barrels on the Pro Rodeo Circuit. In 1987 she and J.G. had a baby girl named Tatum.
Scottie continued to train and run barrel horses until 1990. In 1991 she married Robert Simpson from Anson Texas and started team roping with him. Scottie says team roping has been good to her. “I have won more buckles, saddles and money than I did running barrels”. In 1995 she and Robert had a baby girl named McKenzie and she started back roping that same year.
She trained two of her roping horses and in 2010 she placed second in the average at the All Girl Original Team Roping Finals in Abilene Texas. Scottie continues to rope to this day and makes her home in Nocona Texas.
